Next CWS Event: Monday, September 27th, 2010, 7:00 pm, at Chalet One, Trudeau Park, Cote-St-Luc (across the street from the back of Cavendish Mall). We will be presenting Christina Manolescu, founder of the Invisible Cities Network. She will discuss the perks and perils of the self-publishing adventure, bringing with her both of her self-published novels, Baglady and Waldensong Saturnalia, and will speak about them as part of the discussion. All are welcome. Admission $2.00.

Please RSVP to: canadianwriterssociety@hotmail.com

Your RSVP is very important. Besides letting us know in advance how many people we can expect to come, it also allows us to know who to notify in case of any last minute changes in venue. Please make sure to advise us of your attendance as soon as you can, so that we can make the appropriate arrangements.

A new 8-week workshop for emerging writers:

The Art of Writing a Good Short Story

We all would like to wish Michael Hanna-Fein a very speedy recovery and future good health.

The Canadian Writers Society wishes to convey its congratulations and best wishes to Ruth Reiner on the recent marriage of her daughter Joanna to Douglas Horn. May they find true happiness and contentment in their future life together.

The Canadian Writers Society would like to extend its sincere sympathy, and that of all its members, to our long-time supporter and dear friend Eric Lemieux on the sad loss of his father. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during this time of terrible sorrow.

The CWS is a group of writers, both aspiring and published, who believe in sharing their works and ideas with other like-minded individuals. Society activities include "Reading and Feedback" and "Imagination" evenings, work-shops on topics of interest to the membership, suppers, meeting selected authors and lectures by speakers on subjects that are of benefit to writers. So take a minute and see what we're all about. Come and join us at one of out meetings and find out what you've been missing.

So, go to it, fellow members and welcome visitors... have yourself a ball!

Occasionally, when we send out e-mails to our members, announcing when and where we are holding the next CWS get-together, we request an RSVP. Now we know it might be difficult for some of you to respond, but we really appreciate those who do, as it makes the planning of the event so much easier, as well as allowing us to contact those who have reserved in the event of a last minute change of venue. When we get no answer back, we find it impossible to do anything, not knowing if anyone will even be there. Since we are required to make a payment for the use of the rooms, if no one shows up, it comes directly out of our pockets. We would rather cancel the meeting and reschedule than hold a meeting for no one. A party where no one attends isn't much of a party. Please, make the effort to advise us of your intentions.

To help budding writers in their attempt to be published, we are making available online this checklist of what you should watch out for when negociating your first (and subsequent) publishing agreements:
